Curriculum Enrichment: Trips, Visits and Visitors

Bitterne CE Primary School is dedicated to providing our children with a well-rounded and enriching educational experience. We believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom, and we strive to offer a variety of opportunities for our children to engage with the wider world and deepen their understanding of the curriculum.

Residential Trips

To foster a sense of adventure and independence, we offer residential trips for our older children. Our Year 6 pupils attend an outdoor adventurous activities trip to PGL Marchants Hill, where they challenge themselves with activities like climbing, abseiling, and zip-lining. Our Year 4 children visit the Stubbington Study Centre, where they immerse themselves in hands-on environmental studies and team-building exercises.

Curriculum-Enhancing Visits

Throughout the year, we arrange day trips to enrich the learning experiences of our children. These include visits to Hilliers Garden Centre, Butser Farm, Winchester Science Museum, and Southampton Art Gallery, among others. These excursions provide our children with the chance to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world settings, sparking their curiosity and deepening their understanding.

In-School Experiences

In addition to our off-site visits, we also bring the learning to our children through various in-school experiences. Our children have the opportunity to interact with farm animals and observe the hatching of chicks through our "Living Eggs" programme, fostering a love for the natural world. We also host performing arts events, such as the Year R and KS1 Christmas Show and the Year 6 end-of-year production, allowing our children to showcase their talents and build confidence.

Celebration and Community Events

Rooted in our Christian ethos of love, trust, and forgiveness, we celebrate important events throughout the school year, including Harvest, Christmas, and Easter services at our local church, Holy Saviour. These gatherings bring our school community together, strengthening the bonds between our children, families, and the wider community.

As our Year 6 children prepare to embark on the next chapter of their educational journey, we mark this milestone with special events, such as the Winchester Cathedral Leavers Service and a trip to Paultons Park.

Innovative Learning Experiences

To further enrich our curriculum, we have incorporated the use of virtual reality (VR) headsets, allowing our children to immerse themselves in interactive, 360-degree learning experiences. These cutting-edge tools enable our children to explore new perspectives and engage with their studies in a dynamic and engaging way.

At Bitterne CE Primary School, we are committed to providing our children with a diverse range of learning opportunities that go beyond the traditional classroom setting. By fostering curiosity, creativity, and a sense of community, we aim to inspire our children to become well-rounded, confident, and engaged learners who are prepared to make a positive impact on the world around them.
