PE and Sports Premium

Bitterne CE Primary School is committed to providing a well-rounded education that nurtures the whole child. Physical education, school sport and physical activity (PESSPA) play a vital role in this, supporting the development of our pupils' physical, mental, and social well-being.

PE and Sports Premium Grant

In 2013, the Government introduced the PE and Sport Premium, a funding stream designed to improve the quality and provision of PEESPA in primary schools. The Government stated that:‘ Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer'. This means that schools should use the premium to:

  • develop or add to the PE and sport activities that they already offer
  • make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

Enhancing the PESSPA Experience

We use the PE and Sport Premium to:

  • Develop and expand the range of sports and physical activities available to our pupils, ensuring they have access to a diverse and engaging programme.
  • Provide high-quality training and professional development for our teaching staff, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to deliver exceptional PE lessons.
  • Purchase new equipment and resources to support the delivery of our PE curriculum, allowing our pupils to learn and practice a wide variety of skills.
  • Offer a broad selection of extracurricular sports clubs, giving our pupils the chance to explore their interests and talents beyond the classroom.

Aligning with Our Values

Our commitment to PE and sport is underpinned by the core values that guide our school: love, trust, and forgiveness. Through physical activity, our pupils learn the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance - values that are essential for their personal growth and development.

Nurturing the Whole Child

At Bitterne CE Primary, we believe that a strong PE programme is crucial for the holistic development of our pupils. By investing in PE and sport, we are not only improving physical fitness but also fostering essential life skills, such as communication, problem-solving, and resilience. These qualities align with our school's vision and will serve our pupils well, both in their academic pursuits and as they transition into the next stage of their lives.
