Music
“Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.” (The National Curriculum)
At Bitterne CE Primary school we provide a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum that will inspire children to develop a love and enjoyment of music and promote their talents as musicians; we believe this will increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. We believe music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way pupils act, think and feel, enabling them to be creative, collaborative and resilient which will also support their positive mental wellbeing. Music transcends different cultures, abilities and generations- stimulating responses on both emotional and intellectual levels. Our aim is to develop musical skills and knowledge through effective teaching of the Lion Learning Pathways where children are fully engaged and are confident in music learning. In order to prepare them to contribute to the wider society in which they live, we aim to enable children to appreciate music throughout their lives.
