Art & Design

"Art has the role in education of helping children become like themselves instead of more like everyone else."  Sydney Gurewitz Clemens

Art has played a pivotal role in modelling our historical journey, enriching the diverse fabric of our culture, and nurturing creativity for children to explore and embrace. Through tactile and sensory experiences, our carefully sequenced learning builds systematically through the key stages as we aim to foster a love for creative expressions throughout our school.

During their time at Bitterne CE Primary, the children have boundless opportunities to explore art through paint, embroidery, printmaking and photography. Through exploring renowned artists, we encourage pupils to harness their own personal creativity, engaging them in the exploration that art encompasses boundless possibilities. At Bitterne, we believe that anyone can be an artist. As their art skills grow, they will have the opportunity to explore their own thoughts and feelings through creative outlets. We aim to foster a love of creative expression, help them find their own specialised artistic medium, trust in their own strengths and experiences and forgive themselves for any mistakes they might make as they help us to learn and grow.
